Alvin D. Hooper

Alvin Dillard Hooper of Pisgah Forest, NC, has gone home to his Father in Heaven, passing peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 86. His life was a shining example of faith, love, service, and humility—a legacy that will live on in all who knew him.

Born on November 22, 1939, in Tuckasegee, NC, Alvin was a man of intellect and character. He earned a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University and a law degree from Seton Hall University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. His distinguished career as an attorney for AT&T was marked by dedication, fairness, and integrity. Over the years, he was a trusted advisor and respected colleague who handled complex legal matters with wisdom and grace. Yet his work never defined him as much as his relationships and values.

A devoted family man, Alvin loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and extended family deeply and unconditionally. He was a great father who gave his children countless opportunities to grow, succeed, and thrive. He built a legacy of love and strength for his grandchildren, one that will guide future generations. His love extended beyond family to friends, neighbors, and his community. Known for countless selfless acts of kindness, Alvin always offered help quietly and humbly, never expecting anything in return. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a warm smile, or a helping hand, he gave freely and with a servant’s heart. An active member of St. Timothy’s Methodist Church, he faithfully taught Sunday school and played an active role in the congregation. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and he lived as a reflection of God’s love in the world. Alvin found peace and joy in the outdoors—whether gardening, walking through the woods, or simply appreciating God’s creation. Tending to the earth brought him a sense of fulfillment and calm, and like his life, was filled with growth, color, and care.

Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lloyd and Gertie Hooper, his sisters, Agnes Hooper, Melba Hooper, Ina Hooper, and Glana Stanley, and his brothers, E.M Hooper, Lloyd Hooper, Leonard Hooper, Kenneth Hooper, and Eugene Hooper.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Ellen; son Douglas Hooper (Heidi) and daughter, Laura Smith (Tim); cherished granddaughters; Hannah Francis (Leeroy), Julia Smith (Kenji), and Leah Arnold (Travis); and great grandson Kingston Francis; sister Mildred Brown and brother, Mac Hooper (Irene); and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 2, 2026 St. Timothy’s Methodist Church in Brevard.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Timothy’s Methodist Church, Sharing House, or a charity close to your heart. His was a life well-lived—full of faith, love, family, and purpose. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
