Carl Frederick Blozan was born in Huntington Park, CA in 1935, graduated from South Pasadena-San Marino High School and went on to Stanford where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering (1957). In 1959 he graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in Industrial Management. A move to Washington D.C. resulted in a career with the Operation Research Office of Johns Hopkins University as a research analyst and later employment at the Food and Drug Administration in 1973 as an analyst in the Medical Devices division. Carl promoted the advancement of qualified women during his career. He retired in 1994 and lived in Cashiers, NC and at College Walk Retirement Community in Brevard, NC prior to his death on March 21, 2026 at the age of 90. In retirement he became a Certified Public Account, passing the exam with a nearly perfect score. He enjoyed serving his clients and working diligently on their tax returns.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathie Lange Wyatt Blozan. They lived in Germany the first two years of their marriage and later had two sons: William Frederick (Heidi), and Benjamin Carl (Cheri). Will and Heidi have two children, Aven (Sydney) and Cora Marie.
In 1973 Carl became a Christian as a result of reading the book of Revelation while stuck in a traffic jam on Route 50. Sitting in the median strip, he concluded it had to be God-inspired, that man just couldn’t make that stuff up and have it tie seamlessly and beautifully into Old Testament prophecy and symbolism. He discovered a love of a cappella singing, especially shape-note and convention singing. His favorite shape-note song was “Not Made with Hands,” and his favorite hymn was “Victory in Jesus.”
Carl had an enthusiasm for life and had many close friends. He loved family, softball, hiking, wildflowers, the ocean, fishing, crabbing, cooking, eating, stamp-collecting, driving a convertible, square dancing, Frisbee tossing, data collecting and math. He had a sustained and vocal dislike of traffic, meetings, and peanut butter.
A memorial service will be held April 18 at 11:00 AM at Brevard Wesleyan Church in Brevard after a visitation/receiving line at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to donate to one or both of these:
