Carrol Gene “Pete” Hutchins, 88, of Transylvania County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, after a brief illness, at The Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Born on May 2, 1938, in Transylvania County, Pete was the son of the late Walter Franklin Hutchins and Carrie Elizabeth Hatfield. He was also preceded in death by his son, Anthony Keith Hutchins, and his sister, Judy Hutchins.
Pete dedicated 42 years of service to Olin/Ecusta. Outside of work, he found great joy in gardening, fishing, camping, and listening to music—especially when performed by his sons and grandsons. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball and rarely met a stranger. Pete enjoyed spending time with people, sharing stories, and recalling events and conversations with remarkable detail. He was also a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and sought to live out his faith each day.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Maxine Wilson Hutchins, with whom he recently celebrated 70 years of marriage; his sons, Frank Hutchins, and Toby Hutchins and wife Theresa; his grandsons, Cory Hutchins Payne, Jeremy Hutchins, Tanner Hutchins and wife Skyler, and Tyler Hutchins; his granddaughters, Abby Hutchins and Natalie Breedlove; and his great-grandchildren, Greyson, Thayer, Ellie, Paysia, and Chloe. A visitation will be held at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
Pete will be remembered for his devotion to his family—particularly his wife, Eva—his love of camping and fishing, his remarkable memory, and the countless stories he shared throughout his life. He had a quick wit and loved to make people laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and, most importantly, a love for Christ that will continue through the generations that follow him.
Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations is honored to serve the family of Pete Hutchins.
