Charles Garfield Clark

Charles Garfield Clark, 86, of Penrose, NC passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 4, 1939, to the late Charles and Rebecca Smith Clark of Quebec. He graduated from Rosman High School in 1957 and went on to serve for four years in the U.S. Navy.

After his discharge, he worked at Ecusta Paper Mill for over 30 years and then at Roseway Trucking Company. He married the love of his life, Frances Heath, and spent 63 wonderful years together.

He was a member of Little River Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and served in several positions. His job as a greeter was special, seeing parents bringing their children to church. He was known as the “candy man”.

He loved life and had many friends.

Garfield is survived by his wife, Frances, two sons, Dennis (Lori) Clark, and Douglas (Wendy) Clark, five grandchildren whom he loved dearly; Haley, Jackson (fiancée, Brianna Queen), Bryson (girlfriend, Morgan Wienand), Lauren, and Logan Clark, and a sister; Rachel  (David) Hudson of Quebec.

Funeral services for Garfield will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Little River Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-1:45PM in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
