Duane Lee Allen

January 8, 1962 — July 30, 2025

Brevard

Duane Lee Allen, 63, of Transylvania County, passed away on July 30, 2025. He was the son of the late Virgil and Juanita Allen.

Affectionately known as “Big’un” or “Chief” to many who knew and loved him, Duane was a profoundly loved man whose quiet strength, loyalty, and unwavering care left a deep imprint on everyone he encountered. A devoted husband, father figure, grandfather, and friend, he was someone others could always count on—steady in crisis, generous in spirit, and humble in his service.

Duane was married to his late wife Brenda Allen, with whom he spent decades building a life rooted in service and community. Both served at the Lake Toxaway Fire Department, where Duane rose to the role of Fire Chief—a position he considered one of his proudest honors. Their shared commitment to help others shaped their family and community legacy.

He also worked for many years in groundskeeping at Sapphire Lakes (later Burlingame) and volunteered with Rosman Youth Football, mentoring young athletes and helping shape not just their skills but their character.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Allen; stepson Paul Ramsey (Penny) of Candler; grandsons Kevin Chamberlain (Heather, great grandsons Camden and Colten) of Fletcher; and Ben Powell (Naomi) of Pisgah Forest. He was preceded in death by his first wife Brenda Allen, stepdaughter Terri Chamberlain, and brothers Darryl and Scott Allen.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations in Brevard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mack McCall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Toxaway Fire Department at 850 Blue Ridge Road, Lake Toxaway, NC 28747, in honor of Duane’s lifelong dedication to public service.
