It’s with heavy hearts that we share that Kelson Cook, II, passed away on February 27, 2026, at the age of 71.
Kelson was born on October 11, 1954, in Leavenworth, Kansas, and later made his way to Missouri, including Jefferson City, which always stayed close to who he was. As a young man, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served proudly, earning the rank of Lance Corporal—something he carried with quiet pride for the rest of his life.
In time, Kelson made his home in Brevard, North Carolina, where he built a life centered on family and hard work. He owned K&N Painting and spent many years painting homes throughout Western North Carolina. He took pride in doing things the right way and was known for his work ethic and reliability.
Kelson was also a true Kansas City Chiefs fan—loyal to the end, no matter the season.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelson Cook I and Carol Ruth Geissal. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Nancy Cook; his brother, Mikl Cook of Holt Summit, Missouri; his stepson, Harry Bishop, Jr.; his daughter‑in‑law, Alicia Bishop; and his grandchildren, Jacob Bishop and Addison Bishop.
In keeping with Kelson’s wishes, there will be no service.
For those who would like to honor him, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: The Elizabeth House, 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or Connestee Fire Rescue, Inc.400 East Fork Road, Brevard, NC 28712
Thank you to everyone who cared about Kelson and who has supported the family.
