Irma Elizabeth Hoxit

Irma Elizabeth Hoxit, 80, of Lake Toxaway, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Shelby Edward and Ruby Brewer Hampton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Smathers.

Armed with her strong-willed personality, she truly enjoyed her work at Citizen Telephone (later Comporium), where she worked for 43 years until she retired. After her retirement she always found projects around her house to do, whether it was painting or hanging wallpaper, she found ways to stay busy until she could relax with a good book and a cup of coffee.

Her greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren and family. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert “Bob” Hoxit; their children Beth Hoxit and James Hoxit (Ashleigh); grandchildren: Tiffan Black, Ryleigh Fuller, Keith Fuller and John Hoxit; her sisters: Janice Ellerbee and Brenda Danielson as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2026 before a private graveside service.
