Joe Clyde Compton

Joe Clyde Compton, 89, of Brevard, passed away on April 28, 2026. A Transylvania County native, he was the son of the late Freeman and Mamie Tinsley Compton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Reid, and his brothers, Roy Compton and Carl Compton.

An avid fisherman, Carl retired from Ecusta after 44 years of service. He also youth football for over 25 years and watched as some of his players reached a high level of success on the collegiate level. He enjoyed annual vacations to Myrtle Beach for over 50 years, but football, fishing and family were his passions with family being his greatest joy and love.

His survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary “Cindy” Compton; children Cynthia Williams (Wayne), Shannon McCann and Larry Compton (Kim); four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and his brothers Lewis and Charles Compton.
