Joyce Landreth Lovelace, a beloved Brevard, North Carolina native, joined Jesus peacefully surrounded by family on July 8, 2025 at The Elizabeth House. Born on September 16, 1942, in Brevard, Joyce spent her life rooted in the mountains she loved, always carrying with her a deep faith in Jesus Christ, a kind spirit, and a love for her family and community.
She was a graduate of Brevard high School and a member of Dunn’s Rock Church and later East Fork Baptist Church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ronnie Lovelace; her parents; and five older siblings. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sharon Lovelace and Windy Shetters; her grandchildren, Andrew Lovelace, Tricia Atkins (Mark), and Michaella Shetters; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Owen, and Graceleigh Atkins, and Sebastian Hubbard. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
A devoted follower of Christ, Joyce’s love for Jesus shone through everything she did. She served faithfully as a church pianist for many years and was an active and loving part of her church family. Her joy could be found in the simple pleasures — listening to gospel music, Elvis, and golden oldies; spending time with her great-grandchildren; and caring for her beloved dog, Ashlyn.
Joyce had an unmistakable style — wearing her signature “curly” perm for over 60 years — and an unmistakable warmth. She loved both the beach and the mountains, fried shrimp and fried chicken, Diet Dr Pepper Cherry and Zero bars. Cashews and mangos were favorite snacks, but nothing compared to time spent with her family.
She will be remembered most for her unwavering faith, her gentle heart, her joyful laugh, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at East Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Tankersly officiating. Family and friends are invited to share memories and honor a woman who brought light and love to every room she entered.
