Leonard Wayne Owen

Leonard Wayne Owen, 71, of Brevard, passed away on March 25, 2026. A Transylvania County native, he was the son of the late Leonard Frank and Doris Gillespie Owen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Mark Owen.

A skilled equipment operator, he was a kind, gentle soul who loved to play guitar and drums and he enjoyed playing and recording songs he had written. He had a good sense of humor and was a loyal friend. He enjoyed the outdoors and his two boxer dogs, but he loved his family most of all.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kay Delk Owen; children April Owen Salter (Chris), Haley Gardin (Deandre), Thomas William Owen, Jennifer Melissa Baer and James Michael Grant III (Sarah); his sister Ethel Owen and brother Philip Owen; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
