Marcia Lee Clark, age 90, died on July 31, 2025 at The Landings in Mills River, NC. Marcia was born April 13, 1935 in Grand Forks, ND, to Edgar and Elizabeth Patterson. The family moved to Canton, OH, in the late 1940s, where many extended family members lived. She moved to Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC, in the late 1990s, after having lived in Cashiers and Highlands, NC and in Florida.
Marcia graduated from North Canton High School, OH, in 1953, and received a B.A. from Bowling Green State University, OH, an M.A. from Michigan State University, MI, and a diploma from the Sarasota School of Massage Therapy, FL. Marcia worked as a Child Development Specialist for 25 years at Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, OH, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, Akron Child Guidance Center, Akron, OH, Columbia Counseling Center, Lake City, FL, and Suncoast Mental Health Center, Osprey, FL.
She spent 18 years practicing massage therapy in Cashiers and Highlands, NC and at Brevard Racquet Club and Acupuncture & Herbal Center in Brevard, NC.
Marcia studied clothing construction in college and was a gifted seamstress and artist. She created high-quality, unique clothing and accessories for herself and family, and embroidered and knitted clothing and framed pictures. Other works of art she created for her family were watercolor and acrylic paintings, wall paper sculptured paintings, stuffed bears and children’s books that she wrote, illustrated, and constructed from cardboard, paper, cloth and ribbons. Marcia enjoyed the peaceful environments of nature wherever she lived, and spent time hiking, playing tennis, attending live music concerts and reading, along with being a good friend and conversationalist. She participated in the Connestee Falls Amateur Theater Society, was a volunteer with Head Start in Highlands, Smart Start in Brevard, and was a member of the Unitarian-Universalists of Transylvania County.
Marcia is survived by her sister, Sandra Cowing, Venice, FL; brother, Steve Patterson, Massillon, OH; Sister-in-law, Carol Patterson, Hendersonville, NC; nieces Karen (Kent) Kauffman, Kim (Greg) Patton and Jaclyn (Vince Colandrea) Patterson; nephews Randy Patterson and Stephen Patterson; and great nephews Evan Patterson, Ethan Patterson and Reagan Kauffman.
