Michael Douglas Glenn was born in Greenville, South Carolina on September 18,1940 to Harland Douglas Glenn and Mildred Elizabeth Glenn. Left to cherish his memory are Sue Ann, his wife of 62 years; daughters Caroline Flint Glenn (Alan George) and Elizabeth Ilene “Betsy” Glenn; a sister, Donna Lemons (Dewey) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Glenn, Jr. and brother-in-law, Cort Ray Flint, Jr.

Mike graduated from Parker High School in Greenville, then Furman University in 1962, earning a degree in political science. He began his law studies at the University of South Carolina, where he was managing editor of the Law Review and in the Order of the Wig and Robe. He graduated magna cum laude in 1965 and was then admitted to the South Carolina Bar.

Later he was also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States of America, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Services, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the Supreme Court of the State of South Carolina.

Settling in Anderson, South Carolina, Mike began his legal career and over the next 53 years he would help countless clients in civil, domestic and criminal litigation. In 1972 he became the Anderson County Court Judge, which was to soon become the County and Family Court of Anderson, and he served until 1978. It was during these years that Mike realized a void in the resources for troubled youth and was instrumental in the creation of the Youth Treatment Center for Boys. Since its inception, and now operating as New Foundations Home for Children, thousands of children and families have been helped.

Mike served on the Governor’s Committee on Criminal Justice in 1979-1981, was Chairman of the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council in 1979-1989 and served on the South Carolina Department of Youth Services Board from 1981-1988, and Chairman in 1986. He was presented with The Order of the Palmetto by Governor Richard Riley in 1987 for his work in the field of juvenile justice.

Mike was a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, served as a member of the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors, the Judicial Qualifications Committee, the South Carolina Supreme Court Board of Commissioners on Grievance and Discipline, the South Carolina Supreme Court Board of Bar Examiners and the South Carolina Supreme Court ADR Commission.

In 2017 Mike retired from the law firm of Glenn Haigler Stathakis and Hanis, LLP.

He served on the board of The Palmetto Bank in upstate South Carolina, first the local Advisory Board and later the Board of Directors. The final year serving as Chairman of the Board.

As a lifelong golfer, Mike had finally recruited Sue Ann to the game, and they loved playing together at The Country Club of Sapphire Valley in the mountains of North Carolina where they had lived since 1996. He served on the board of the club for several years, continuing his legacy of always making a difference when he could.

Mike loved traveling, good food & wine and spending time with his friends & family. It was rare to see Mike without a smile on his face and singing or humming a tune, as most who knew him know.

He was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church after their recent move to Brevard, North Carolina.
