Reed Gerard, 66, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, during health assisted living support in Brevard, NC following prolonged mental and physical decline.
He was born in the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fl, on April 10, 1959, to parents Jane Hawkins Gerard and 2nd Lt. Charles Gerard, USMC, as the first of three Gerard sons.
During his father’s 25-year Marine Corps aviation career and the family’s many moves, Reed was an Eagle Scout, and graduated high school at Punahou School, Hnolulu, HI and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. His college years provided ample opportunity for his enjoyment of the great outdoors with two years of employment at Estes Park, CO. YMCA Camp of the Rockies. His ODU graduation was followed with 32-years of employment with the university’s library department.
Declining health brought Reed to the Brevard area. He is survived there by his father, retired Lt. Colonel Charles G. Gerard, USMC; brothers Steven C. Gerard of New York City and Ned G. Gerard of Stratford, CT. His mother passed away in 1996 and is interred in St. Louis, MO. Reed’s interment will be established at a future date.
