Samuel John "Sam" Woodruff, Jr.

Samuel John “Sam” Woodruff, Jr., 87, of Pisgah Forest, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. A native of Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Samuel John and Louis Davis Woodruff.

A master gardener, he and his wife owned a tax preparation service before retiring to the Transylvania County area. He had also worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections for 20 years. He had held several positions in the church and enjoyed singing in the church choirs both in Illinois and in Brevard. He enjoyed board games and playing cards, especially with his family, and doing projects with his grandchildren.

His greatest joys were his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Woodruff; children: Patricia Woodruff Cheek (Marshall), Mindy West (Frank), Robert Woodruff (Jennifer), Carol Woodruff Johnson (Brian), Monica Woodruff Biemer (David) and Steven Woodruff (Kelly); his sister Dorothy Allen, of Elmhurst, Illinois, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
