William James “Jim” Rileigh passed away on April 18, 2025. Born in Baltimore MD, Jim attended Northeast High in St. Petersburg FL and graduated from Eckerd College. In 1971, he received a PhD in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University. There he met a fellow graduate student, Kitty, who would become his wife of 56 years. They realized later that they were in the same graduating class of the same high school.
Jim worked as a psychologist at mental health centers, in private practice, and most recently at the V.A. Medical Center in Fayetteville NC, where he cared for war veterans. In 2003 he retired to Brevard NC, drawn to the natural beauty of the mountains.
He was active in his leisure time with gardening (earning Master Gardener), woodworking, running, tennis, and travel. He was also a devoted dog owner.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathryn (Kitty) Kendall Rileigh, daughter Kendall Rileigh Hardart, son-in-law Michael Hardart, and grandson Oliver Rileigh Hardart.
Service arrangements will be announced at a later date.
